The residents

Meet the animals who run the place.

Every one of them has a name, a personality and a favorite snack. Here is who you will meet on your visit.

Ferguson & Poppy, Scottish Highland Coos

Scottish Highland Coos

Ferguson & Poppy

Our shaggy welcoming committee. Poppy is the bigger of the two, with a rusty red coat. Ferguson is smaller, honey-blonde and just as fluffy. Both will do just about anything for a scoop of Coo Candy.

  • Favorite treat: Coo Candy, our molasses-covered grains
  • Their double coat keeps them cozy year-round
  • Those bangs are called a "dossan" — it shields their eyes

The Hen Den, Heritage Chickens

Heritage Chickens

The Hen Den

A busy, chatty flock of heritage hens who lay a literal rainbow — sky blue, olive, chocolate, mint and blush. Every visit includes a peek at the nesting boxes.

  • Eggshell color comes from the breed, not the feed
  • Kids can help gather the day’s eggs
  • Fresh eggs are for sale whenever the hens have laid enough

Mortoise, Sulcata Tortoise

Sulcata Tortoise

Mortoise

Slow, steady and secretly the star of the ranch. Mortoise patrols the pasture in search of the perfect patch of clover and loves a gentle shell rub.

  • Sulcatas are the third-largest tortoise species on Earth
  • They can live well beyond 70 years
  • Mortoise eats grasses, hay and the occasional hibiscus flower

Each breed in our flock lays its own signature shade. Tap an egg to meet the hen behind the color. Fresh eggs are for sale whenever the hens have laid enough.

Good to know

Questions from the fence line.

Is the ranch open to drop-in visitors?

We are a private, family-owned ranch, so every visit is by appointment. Send us a request and we will find a time that works for you.

Are the animals safe for small children?

Yes — Ferguson, Poppy, the hens and Mortoise are all gentle and used to visitors. A family member supervises every animal interaction, and we will show little ones the best way to say hello.

What should we wear?

Closed-toe shoes and clothes you do not mind getting a little dusty. It is a working ranch, after all! For photoshoots, we recommend bringing a change of shoes.

What happens if the weather turns?

Safety comes first for both guests and animals. If the weather is not cooperating, we will reschedule your visit at no charge.

Can I bring my own photographer?

Absolutely. Any photographer is welcome to bring clients out to the ranch for a session. Don’t have one? We work with several talented local photographers and can arrange your photoshoot with one of them.

Can we buy eggs?

Yes, whenever the hens have laid enough. Fresh rainbow eggs are available for purchase, so just ask during your visit!

Can we bring food and drinks?

Please do! Guests provide their own food and drink, and you are welcome to enjoy a picnic on the property.

Do you host events without the animals?

Yes. Along with parties featuring the coos, the property hosts larger gatherings without the animals, such as corporate events, family BBQs and weddings.

Can we film at the ranch?

Yes, the ranch is available as a filming location. Choose "Filming Location" in the request form, tell us about your production, and we will follow up.

Plan your visit

Come say hello to the herd.

Tell us a little about what you have in mind and we will get back to you to set a date. Every visit is private, so it is just you, your people and the animals.
